Each year, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) offers students the opportunity to attend a unique four-day leadership experience on Lake Couchiching.
The Exploring Leadership program at the Ontario Education Leadership Centre (OELC), engages and empowers youth to maximize their potential as leaders, encouraging them to become responsible and participating citizens in their schools, communities and beyond. The SCDSB runs four-day sessions in both the fall and the spring at the OELC.
This May, 204 SCDSB students from 28 elementary schools and 6 high schools took part in the camp experience, led by 60 staff members.
“Our students and staff take part in educational and fun team building activities as part of the Exploring Leadership program,” says Kent Cheesman, Principal at Cookstown Central PS and program coordinator. “The OELC is a valued partner in developing group dynamics, conflict resolution, time management and character education skills that our students can put to use in their classrooms, schools and communities.”
The OELC has been providing leadership development opportunities to students from across Ontario since 1948. OELC believes that our youth can and do make a difference – both today and tomorrow.
