Education is evolving—it’s a great time to renew our mission statement and set our vision and values. But we can’t do this alone. We need to hear from parents, students, staff and community partners.
We created drafts based on input
Last school year, we held various consultations with internal and external stakeholders through our communications audit, outreach for the Ministry of Education’s vision on the future of education and other activities. We heard from parents, students, staff and community partners about what our school system means to them and what education should be.
Key words and phrases kept coming up. Words like choice, potential, grit, resiliency, whole child, student-focused, growth mindset, dedicated.
We used the feedback to create a draft mission statement and draft vision statement options that we feel capture what our stakeholders were telling us.
We already have values as part of our schools and system through our Commit to Character Program. We’re interested in finding out whether these values capture effectively and completely the values of the SCDSB.
We have created a survey to give our parents, staff, students and community members another opportunity to provide feedback:
Here’s how you can help:
1. Get to know the drafts by viewing this presentation:
2. Respond to our survey: www.scdsb.on.ca/mission.
3. Share the opportunity with others so we can hear from as many individuals as possible.
Thank you for your interest and for taking the time to provide feedback. The deadline to respond is November 12, 2014. Please share widely!
