Hyde Park celebrates the school’s grand opening

It was an exciting day at Hyde Park Public School on Wednesday, May 14.

Students, staff, community members and special guests filled the gym in excitement for the official grand opening of the school. The ceremony started off with an ensemble of student drummers and continued with Kindergarten students making a presentation called “Power In Me” and the Hyde Park Glee Club performing for the crowd. The pace of the event was kept up by the two student Masters of Ceremonies.

“Our grand opening was a celebration of the abundance of accomplishments and events that have taken place at our school in only nine short months,” said Shannon LeBlanc, Grade 4 Teacher. “We have established ourselves as a school and are ready for the future. I am honoured to walk through the doors of our new school every day and work with such incredible students and an amazing staff.”

Students made presentations, including the announcement of a school time capsule and a slide show of pictures from the past school year. Students also heard from Peter Beacock, Chairperson, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), Kathi Wallace, Director of Education, SCDSB and Christine Williams, Trustee for the school.

The afternoon ended with student-led tours of the building finishing up in the library where special guests were treated to a reception with the staff of Hyde Park.
